We visited Morrill Hall in Lincoln, Nebraska. Nebraska is a state that is a place where lots of fossils have been found. The world’s largest mammoth fossil was found in NE. On June 3, 1980 there were 7 twisters that hit Grand Island, NE at once. The twisters came in the evening about at 6:00 p.m. It would be a long night for Grand Island. There where a few deaths in the city, but the twisters were in the city for about 3-6 hrs. A lot others were wounded. It was a gruesome storm and everyone would remember the screaming noise the twisters made. In Grand Island there is a hill called Tornado Hill. This is where people sled today. The hill was formed by all the stuff the tornado left behind. When the people of Grand Island cleaned up after the storm they piled it up right where the hill is today. There is a book on the Grand Island twisters and it is called “Night of the Twisters” by Ivy Ruckman. It’s a wonderful book! I think you would like the book!! I think this makes Nebraska unique. A lot of people come to Nebraska to see the sandhill cranes including Jane Goodall. The most unique railroad station in the country is the Union Pacific's Bailey Yards, in North Platte, because it is the largest rail yard in the world. Union Pacific is the railroad that linked the east and west coasts with the Golden Spike. It has its headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. Dear Colorado, Did you know that Nebraska was the first state to try the transcontinental paved road? Built in 1915, it was called the "Seedling Mile". The man who thought of it all was Carl G. Fisher and he was an engineer too. He said that everybody should travel the world before they get old. Something different about Nebraska is that we are on our third capitol building. Our first one, built in 1867, was made of limestone and it crumbled. The second capitol, started in 1881, was made of the same thing so it fell. Our capitol now, started in 1920, was made of Indiana limestone. It doesn’t look like the white house, it has a tower. What is unique about Colorado? Well I know what is unique about Nebraska. Kool-Ade was invented in Hastings, Nebraska. Edwin Perkins was the person who invented Kool-Ade in 1927. He loved mixing chemicals. He went with his assistants and they mixed dextrose, citric acid, tartaric acid, flavoring, and food coloring. One reason why the state capital was located at Lincoln (or Lancaster) was the fact that salt was one of the products of Lancaster county. Another important thing about our salt marsh is that we are the only one that has the Salt Creek tiger beetle. They are endangered. There’s only 150 left. We have salt because the ground water passes over rocks that have salt in them. We have those rocks with salt in them because Nebraska used to be a sea over 100 million years ago. Even the name of our professional baseball team shows our heritage because it’s named the Salt Dogs. It’s me, Frenchman Creek. Did you know Arbor day is celebrated in 50 states? Some people have Tree lover’s week, in Japan they call It Greening Week or Tree holiday or Tree Festival. It all started In 1874 in Nebraska. Arbor Day was started because in the 1840s, when pioneers went to settle, they found very few trees to build houses or to burn for fuel. There was no shade from the sun or wind. During the first Arbor Day, Nebraskans planted about one million trees in one week. Nebraska loves Arbor Day. Don’t you? Frenchman Creek.
Dear Colorado, It’s Niobrara! I think our football team is unique because we are the first team that won 3 National Titles in 4 seasons.
My favorite play was called the Missouri Miracle. QB Scott Frost threw the pass that was for wing back Shevin Wiggins from about the 12 yard line with only seven seconds remaining in the game. Wiggins bobbled the ball near the goal line-- the ball was kicked into the air and a Cornhusker receiver, Matt Davison, caught it--sending the game to overtime, leading the Cornhuskers to a victory. That year, Nebraska Huskers shared a National title with Michigan.
Johnney Rogers, Mike Rozier and Eric Crouch, some of the Nebraska’s best players, all won the Heisman Trophie with the Huskers. Tom Rathman went to our school. He was also a very good football player for the Huskers!
I went to the Spring game and there were 80,000 people there and because of that we came in second for most fans at a spring game in college football history. Oklahoma came in first!

The Lincoln Municipal Airport is among one of the top emergency landings for the NASA Space Shuttle. Clayton Anderson is the first Nebraska-born astronaut. He was born in Omaha and raised in Ashland. He was in space last summer, in July 23, 2007.

Hey, did you know that we have a lot of kinds of grass. Well I know one in particular kind of grass. It is called Indian grass. Indian grass is a native plant. It is tall prairie grass. It reaches 3 to 5 feet. The bloom is light brown with yellow stamens and it blooms from September to February. The pioneers walked through Indian grass on their way to Oregon. One governor (Governor Bob Kerrey) donated a framed Nebraska grass with roots to decorate the Governor's Mansion when he left. Each governor adds something to the mansion.
Hey Platte again, Did you know Nebraska has a golf club and course in the sand-hills. It’s ranked #11 in the world! It has cabins in it. The whole course is 8,000 acres - others are only 120 acres. It has sand dunes over 400 feet tall. When the course opened in June 1995,it was the most natural golf course built in the United States since World War I. Platte
